UGH Colds

OK so what is the deal with SUMMER COLDS? How are they different than regular colds? This really sucks!
Wednesday I got up feeling totally fine but as the day progressed my throat felt like it was on fire. I must have drank a gallon of water (I hardly ever drink water) in 6 hours! By 2:30 I felt like I went 10 rounds in an ultimate fighting ring. I went home took NyQuil and died.
Well today is Saturday, I no longer feel beat up but this wonderful thing has settled in my head. My nose to be exact. Now my "summer cold" has turned into a sinus thing. Totally sucks. I am not a person who normally takes medication, I have issues swallowing pills. Yuk hate them. But not taking medication tends to make colds last a little longer. Sucks!
I know I say Sucks a lot, but it does. Can not get motivated to do anything I was supposed to do this weekend, AND I have to drive to Felicia's school tomorrow to bring her more of her "stuff" she could not fit into her car. Oh yea and it is supposed to rain tomorrow. That will suck also!
This weekend is going to SUCK.

School Started! School Started!! School Started!!! School Started!!!! School Started!!!!!
Today Devin and Mikayla started back to school! This morning went absolutely wonderful! Devin has to get up an hour earlier than he has ever had to, with no arguments, got up with no problems, and went to the bus stop with no arguments. Ye haw!!! Mikayla on the other hand got up and ready just fine, same as always, BUT she kept arguing about what time to go out to the bus stop. I watched her run to the bus as it came down the hill. She made it though.
Felicia drove back to Truman, I wish she would have waited till this weekend but she wanted to get her jobs situated and she is house sitting for a friend up there. It is just we will not see her again until Thanksgiving.
MD said that it was soooooo quite in the house and he was able to get sooo much work done.
YEA ! School started TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I am also have camera withdrawals, my battery crapped out and will not recharge and I have been unable to take pictures. Driving me nuts!

Is It Safe to Come Back??

Well, one post out of my ordinary babble about our house projects and it seems I ruffled some feathers.
Anyone concerned will be happy to know that I just forward on the information to the owners of my company and now its their problem and I am RUNNING the other way.
And for people who feel they must leave comments Anonymously, you should read this post at Huse Blog is it Anyway?
She says it all and so much better than I could ever had said it!
Now back to our regular programing.

Dear Employee: As a result of the reduction of money budgeted for department areas, we are forced to cut down on our number of personnel.

Under this plan, older employees will be asked to take early retirement, thus permitting the retention of younger people who represent our future. Therefore, a program to phase out older personnel by the end of the current fiscal year, via retirement, will be placed into effect immediately.

This program will be known as SLAP (Sever Late-Aged Personnel). Employees who are SLAPPED will be given the opportunity to look for jobs outside the company.

SLAPPED employees can request a review of their employment records before actual retirement takes place. This review phase of the program is called SCREW.

SCREW (Survey of Capabilities of Retired Early Workers). All employees who have been SLAPPED and SCREWED may file an appeal with upper management.

This appeal is called SHAFT (Study by Higher Authority Following Termination).

Under the terms of the new policy, an employee may be SLAPPED once, SCREWED twice, but may be SHAFTED as many times as the company deems appropriate.

If an employee follows the above procedure, he/she will be entitled to get: HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel's Early Severance) or CLAP (Combined Lump sum Assistance Payment).

As HERPES and CLAP are considered benefit plans, any employee who has received HERPES or CLAP will no longer be SLAPPED or SCREWED by the company.

Management wishes to assure the younger employees who remain on board that the company will continue its policy of training employees through our:

Special High Intensity Training (SHIT). We take pride in the amount of SHIT our employees receive. We have given our employees more SHIT than any company in this area. If any employee feels they do not receive enough SHIT on the job, see your immediate supervisor.

Your supervisor is specially trained to make sure you receive all the SHIT you can stand.

And, once again, thanks for all your years of service with us.

A Follow Up

WOW, it seems that my last post brought up some strong feelings for some. I apologize if I offended anyone that was not my intention, as I said "I Had A Question".
Update to yesterdays blog:
I spoke with the person who had mentioned she had this allergy. I wanted to know how sever it was. You know can no one REALLY eat citrus ANYWHERE in the building or just in her area. It seems as a matter of fact the she herself EATS oranges (that kind of floored me), loves them as a matter of fact. She said that it is the peel and oils in the peel she is allergic too. If she breaths (yes airborne) in the oils she starts off with a migraine then the entire left side of her fave goes limp (like she had a stroke). So why does everyone else in the office have to stop if she herself EATS them! She even mentioned that when she would go to clubs (most have citrus on the counter) she would go later in the evening so most of the oils from being cut would be gone.
So again I asked for clarification, and explained why I asked. We as an office devour citrus, we actually have a few vegetarians who have quite a bit of citrus in their diets. So in that I do not feel it is right for everyone else to change their diets or eating habits or what ever for someone.....I do believe that one would call that REVERSE DISCRIMINATION (and do not get me even started there).
She finally explained that if they have their food in the back of the building (where our kitchen is) and they wash their hands she would be fine. I do think that she should have approached this situation a bit differently.
I also personally would not go out get a new position and on the second day inform everyone they had to change their habits for me. I would on the other hand would have explained to my boss in the interview (as most people with disabilities that I know have done) my situation, explain options both for them and what I could do to prevent a sever reaction. If nothing else while accepting the position she could have explained what was up.
I did not mean to make a big deal about this.
As for your children I would NEVER intentionally put them in harms way. I would never intentionally put anyone child or adult in harms way. BUT one has to remember they are not the only ones that may needs.

I have a question

OK so we finally got some to accept a admin position with our company. Now mind you an administrative assistant at my company is no ordinary assistant. We do WAY more than answer phones, type up letters, and do data entry. We are assistants to 18 professionals in our office which travel about 75% of the time. We deal with clients via the phone all the time. They are always searching for some documents they cannot find. Anyway, we are ALWAYS busy and on the go pretty much all day.
So like I said, we finally got someone to last more than a day (at least we have not scared her off yet). But today she informed me that she has an extreme allergy to citrus. So much so that no one can eat an orange or grape fruit, have citrus cleaner such as dish soap or Lysol spray anywhere in the office.
Now my question is are we as a company legally bound to force everyone in the office to no longer bring in anything citrus (which almost everyone in our office does especially in the summer) for snack or lunch. I mean I understand with cleaners and its is easy and not a big deal to not use them. But do we really have to ask people to change THEIR lives and not eat in the back of the office of which she says will still affect her?
Today it seems very heard to find good people, but I do not feel it is fair to the entire office to not be able to do something they have always done. I do not understand why anyone who wanted to have some kind of citrus couldn't go to the break room in the back of the office (while she sits at the front) to eat their fruit.

The Non-Diet Diet

OK So I have the walking thing down, no abs of steel yet. I think miss VH was WAY wrong about the 11 miles a week thing. But I do feel better and sleep better after walking.

I put Devin on a diet about a year ago. No my son is not heavy at ALL. Actually the little bugger is 5'3" and weighs in at 85 pounds. Last winter during wrestling season he weighed 73 pounds. And we needed him to bulk up a bit (most wrestlers cut weight) so we put Devin on a diet. Really all we did was cut the soda, sugar, and snack foods. We made him eat a lot more meat, milk (with protein power), ice cream and yogurt. In about two weeks time we got 5 pound on him. There was a HUGE uproar in the house from MD and Devin as there was no snacks in the house other than popcorn.

Wow I went on a rant there, sorry. Back to the topic. Previously I said I would never go on any diet. I should clarify no FAD diets. But I do believe in eating well. I found a little website called 3-A-Day. I will have to say that at least Devin and I have followed their instructions. Mainly by eating TONS of yogurt (Devin's favorite snack). And one cannot forget the food pyramid. This website designs a personal caloric intake and food pyramid for you. I guess we shall see. Time to plan meals and grocery shop.

New Homefront on the Horizon

Well MD went and did it! We will be getting new stone and brick on the front of the house.......IN OCTOBER!No this is not our hosue. But kind of what we want to do using brick and stone.

We have decided that we will not be doing it ourselves, with a little research we have found that what we wanted (Stacker Stone) to do is NOT something good to do in Missouri. Several Brick people have told us we will be replacing the stone in about 5 years. Of course because of our wacky weather . In addition, we got on line found stones and brick we liked, got bids.............OMG the shock to my penny pinching brain! It would actually only cost us $1,000 more for a professional to do it AND use real brick and stone! Oh yea and it will be done in two - three days. I know for a fact that it would take longer for us to do it ourselves.

Now with that said, MD decided to get the ENTIRE front of the house done, instead of just the porch and garage. On the first floor the main part will be done in brick with stone around the windos, door and garage. Then on the second floor the mail part will be the stone with brick around the windows. I have no idea what the mailbox will look like.

We are going to do some of the prep work which of course gets our cost down, plus paying cash almost takes $2,000 off the price. That my penny pinching brain did like.

Joe (the brick guy as he is referred to by MD) also threw in doing the mailbox to match the house. Cool.

Summer Memories

When my sister and I were kids we had a favorite spot we absolutely LOVED to go to. It was called Happy Joe's Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor. It took us half an hour to walk there and all week baby sitting to earn our spending money.

It had the look of an old time ice cream parlor where the pizza guys wore the red and white striped shirts. The pizza part on one side and the ice cream on the other. AND they had the BEST video games.

We would blow our entire stash of money and would spend the ENTIRE day there. I can honestly say I do not have one bad memory of the time we spent there during our summer breaks.

I have looked around our community and the closest thing I can find that even resembles Happy Joe's is Pizza Street (but by no means really compares). I only wish my kids could have that kind of experience and able to build those kinds of memories.

Getting In Shape

OK, for those of you that know me (and constantly remind me) I am NOT overweight. BUT man am I out of shape.
Plus in my work clothes (jeans and un-tucked tops) one would NEVER see my pudgy parts. I hide my weight well or at least I like to think so.

Actually I would love to have this flat belly (which is my pudgiest part)

I hate diets, I do not believe in them and really never have. I LOVE food and do not think it should be rationed in any shape or form.
As anyone who knows me can tell you I am a grazer. I eat all day long without really sitting down to a real meal.

So VH says to me lets start walking, OK I think to myself this is supposed to be good for ya, so why not. OMG! My butt and feet are rebelling. We only walk 2 miles a day, but when you add in how much walking I already do in a day it makes one's back side ache.

Today for example, 7:30 a.m. 2 mile walk. Then, home and put subsistence in my stomach. I down a 20 oz glass of water, then out to mow for 2 hours!

Next is the house cleaning, and everything I have ever read says to clean your own house for great exercise. Let me tell ya, I think right now I would love to pay someone.

I also am not a big fan of joining a gym and exposing myself to the torture of waiting for machines, classes, and someone who actually knows what they are doing and how to use the machines. I do not like "crowds" anyway. Large groups of people make me nervous.

VH says walk 11 miles a week and I will have abs of steel. Well this was week one, no steel yet. I watch another neighbor walk and she has been walking for years. Easy 11 miles a week and probably more. She plays tennis like every day, sometimes twice a day and she does not have abs of steel.

I guess I will continue and see what happens.

Next people are going to try to get me to quite smoking. Fat chance with that.
